The Lamp and the Woman

So profound and inspiring for Mission Sunday👇🏻 Story: The Lamp and the Woman A young woman once complained to her pastor, “Father, I read the Bible every day, but I don’t understand much. The words go over my head. Maybe it’s not meant for me.” The pastor smiled and handed her a small lamp. He said, “Take this lamp and walk home tonight.” As she walked, the lamp only lit a few steps ahead. She could not see her whole path, but every step she took, more of the way became clear. The next day, she returned, and the pastor said, “God’s Word is like that lamp. You may not understand everything at once, but as you walk in obedience to what you already know, your path becomes clearer.” She began reading Scripture with a new prayer: “Lord, open my mind and guide my steps.” Her faith deepened and soon, she began teaching Scripture to children in her village, spreading the same light she had once struggled to see. What can we learn from this story , that connects us to the Mission Sunday ? 1.Just as the lamp gives light step by step, Scripture gives understanding little by little. We don’t need to see the whole path, only trust that God’s Word will guide each step 2.The woman who once struggled to understand became a teacher of children , a missionary of the Word. Once her mind was opened, she couldn’t keep the light to herself. Mission Sunday calls each of us to share the light we have received in homes, workplaces, and communities. 3.Without oil, the lamp cannot burn. The Holy Spirit gives life and understanding to the Word. On Mission Sunday, we are reminded: Without the Spirit, there is no mission. When the Lord opens our minds, His Word becomes a lamp and when that lamp burns brightly, others find their way to Him. On this Mission Sunday, let us ask the Lord for the grace , to be a lamp that burns brightly so that other may find their way to Him. God bless Fr Cecil sj
