God’s Word is Final…

We must respect our leaders but it is also important that we learn to study and know the Scriptures for ourselves and question everything we are taught to make sure it is what God's Word, the Bible. +++ Once an interesting experiment was conducted with some processionary caterpillars, which are called by this name because they blindly follow each other, one behind another. The farmer used both the pots to put water and bring them to his home. But the broken pot leaked continuously and that made him feel useless. The other pot feeling proud of himself, used to make fun and tease him when he spilled water. One day the broken pot could not stand this anymore and so went to the farmer and told him to throw him away. However, the farmer smiled and said, “

Smell Your Roses, Disregard the Thorns…

“I won a million dollars – but unfortunately because of an illness I became blind and paralyzed.” How many of us would like to trade places with that person? Not many. But we would prefer the former to the latter. This is selective listening. We are so focused on complaining about things we don't have that we lose sight of the things we have. There is a lot to be thankful for. The following example will shed light on: +++ A medical doctor was invited as a guest speaker to address a group of alcoholics. He wanted to make a demonstration that would be powerful enough to make people realize that alcohol was injurious to their health. He had two containers, one with pure distilled water and one with pure alcohol. He put an earthworm into the distilled water and the worm swam beautifully and came up to the top. He put the same earthworm into the alcohol and it disintegrated in front of everyone's eyes. He wanted to prove that this was what alcohol does to the insides of our body. He

Golden Rule…

Our response to God's grace should be to extend it to others; we love because He first loved us, therefore, let us love others as we are loved. +++ One afternoon a husband arrived home with sad news for his wife... HUSBAND: Honey, I just received a call, Mama passed away. Shall we go to town and get some necessities for the funeral? Please write a list and then we can go.” WIFE: A list won't be necessary; we'll just get a very few grocery items. HUSBAND: Is it going to be enough? WIFE: No need to waste money, of course it’s going to be enough! They left for town and after getting a few things. Once again, the husband asked his wife whether she was sure that would be all. She emphasized the issue of not wasting money on the funeral. They then hit the road towards the village and at a point took a turn to his wife's home. Giving is God's Love in Action...

We are to continually be thankful for the many gifts God has given us. It is easy for us to forget how blessed we are when we look at what others have and not focus on the blessings that we possess. A wise man once said that we should not look at the people who are living better than we are, but rather we should look at those who are not as fortunate because that is when we can be truly thankful for everything we have. I encourage you to remember your many blessings and don't allow yourself to take for granted the great gifts God has given you. That doesn’t always mean materially, but it doesn’t exclude it either. Christ came to earth to teach us how to live abundantly, fulfilled lives. In those days, the only way to get here was by ocean liner. He worked hard, saved up his money, and finally put together enough money to buy a one-way ticket. Then he bought a suitcase and filled it with cheese and crackers. That would be his food for the three-week journey. It was all he could afford. The ship set sail. Meal time came. All the other passengers went into the large dining hall to eat their meal. The man went to his suitcase and took out some cheese and crackers. "There is no need," said the men, "We don't need a guide, we have our compasses, we have our charts, we have our maps that will bring us back here." "But," said the guide, "I know the mountain tracks like the back of my hand; I know where the dangerous pits are, I know where the tall cliffs are, I know how to guide you around those and through those difficult places." As she drew closer to him, he tipped his head back to look through the bottom lenses of his bifocals to focus on her more clearly. 'There you go again!' the woman exploded. 'You stick your nose up in the air every time I talk to you! Who do you think you are? I'm sick of your arrogant attitude!' The Priest was taken aback by her outburst of anger. 'You don't understand,' he explained. 'I'm not sticking my nose up in the air at you. I just can't see you when you get near me. A Whale of Gratitude to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus...

"So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don't get tied up again in slavery to the law." - Galatians 5:1. +++ A female humpback whale had become entangled in a spider web of crab traps and lines. She was weighed down by hundreds of pounds of traps that caused her to struggle to stay afloat. She also had hundreds of yards of line rope wrapped around her body, her tail, her torso, and a line tugging in her mouth. A fisherman spotted her and radioed an environmental group for help. Within a few hours, the rescue team arrived and determined that she was so bad off, the only way to save her was to dive in and untangle her. They worked for hours with curved knives and eventually freed her. When she was free, the divers say she swam in what seemed like joyous circles. It is important that we realize and always keep in mind that it is by the strength and power of Almighty God that we are successful in the things He has called us to do. If we depend on our own strength and will, then we will eventually burn out and fail.  Delayed Obedience is Disobedience... I have no idea who the author is, but I have read the following commandments for getting along with people: 1. Speak to people – There is nothing as nice as a cheerful word of greeting. 2. Smile at people – It takes seventy-two muscles to frown and only fourteen to smile. 3. Call people by name – The sweetest music to anyone's ears is the sound of his or her name. 4. Be friendly and helpful – if you have friends, be friendly. 5. Be cordial – Speak and act as if everything you do is a genuine pleasure, but…make sure that it is. 6. Be genuinely interested in people – You can find something interesting about every person. 7. Be generous with praise… and cautious with criticism. 8. Be c

He also said, "If you change your mind, you can change your life." Debts Cancelled, Promises Fulfilled...

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” – 2 Timothy 3:16-17. +++ This is a true story of one of the church members, an attorney, who after reading and meditating on several scriptures, decided to cancel the debts of all his clients that had owed him money for more than 6 months. He drafted a letter explaining his decision and its Biblical basis and sent 17 debt cancelling letters via certified mail. One by one, the letters began to return, unsigned and undelivered. Perhaps a couple people had moved away though not likely. 16 of the 17 letters came back to him because the clients refused to sign for and open the envelopes fearing that this attorney was suing them for their debts. +++ How profound!  *HAPPY PENTECOST SUNDAY!*  Sisters and brothers, today we celebrate the feast of Pentecost, the feast of the Holy Spirit, the birth of the Church. Before Jesus could leave the earth He promised that He was going to send us an Advocate that is the Holy Spirit who will help us, guide us and teach us. +++ Once a Dad took his young son out into the backyard of their garden and he showed his son a huge boulder. He told his son, “I want you to move this boulder from this end of the garden to the other end and I want you to use everything within your capacity to push this boulder. The son was very confident, very enthusiastic and he said, “Yes Dad, I am going to do it.” The son pushed and pushed but it never moved even an inch. So he tried all the more harder. He used all his strength and kept pushing but nothing happened, it did not move an inch. Finally, after about an hour the son was totally tired, sweating and exhausted. In a soft voice, his little woman, as he called her, would say, "Your door isn't closed properly." "Your key is still in the ignition." "Your seatbelt isn't fastened properly." On one occasion, he recalled how the voice of his little woman said, "Your fuel level is getting low." The driver thanked her and, figuring he had sufficient fuel to take him fifty more miles, ignored the voice and kept driving. Soon his little woman repeated, "Your fuel level is low." His last words were to his youngest son who had been his constant companion during his begging trips.  “Dear son," he said, “I have nothing to give you except a cotton bag and a dirty bronze bowl which I got in my younger days from the junk yard of a rich lady.” After his father’s death, the boy continued begging, using the bowl his father had given him. One day a gold merchant dropped a coin in the boy’s bowl and he was surprised to hear a familiar clinking sound.   “Let me check your bowl,” the merchant said. To his great surprise, he found that the beggar’s bowl was made of pure gold.   “My dear young man," he said, “why do you waste your time begging? You are a rich man. Turning Pebbles Into Pearls…

“Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." – 1 Thessalonians 5:18. +++ Into the shell of an oyster a tiny foreign body—such as a tiny parasite—finds its way into the soft oyster body. The intruder, though microscopic, is a source of irritation and pain to the soft body of the oyster. Unable to rid itself of the unwelcome 'guest,' the oyster seeks to reduce the irritation by coating it with layers of soft, iridescent mother-of-pearl material from its own shell. Over time, the oyster transforms a painful irritation into a beautiful pearl of great value. +++ Most of us have "tiny parasites" or annoying "pebbles" that come into our life on a regular basis … many of which can be very frustrating and even painful. Greed; A Sin of Desire...

“Take care! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of possessions.” – Luke 12:15. +++ A student asked his teacher, “What is Greed?” The teacher said, “In order to answer your question, go through the chocolate factory next to our school and pick the one chocolate you like the most. But there is a rule. As you pass through the factory, you cannot turn back. You must pick the chocolate as you go forward only.” The student went to the chocolate factory. As he walked through, He saw the one chocolate wrapped nicely, he instantly liked it but he wondered that he may find much bigger one further. So, He walked further, then he saw another chocolate. But again, he thought the same. When he started to reach near the end of the factory, he couldn’t see any chocolates as big as the one he didn’t pick earlier and started to regret his decision of letting it go. Finally, he gave up. His Ways, Always For Our Betterment…

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” – Isaiah 55:8-9. +++ A man wanted to get married, but he didn't know whom to marry. So he prayed to God, “Lord, open my eyes or reveal to me whom to marry.”  After the prayer, God showed him a poor blind woman in his church, and told him to marry the blind woman.  The man refused and went back to God in prayers, he prayed many times, and after the prayer, God still revealed the same blind woman to him as his wife. So he had no other option than to marry the woman, they fixed a date for their wedding. It so happened, on the day of their wedding, behold! The eyes of the woman opened and she began to see, everybody was happy and some were surprised. (1 Peter 4:10). +++ One of the most beautiful books to read is "Die Empty" by Todd Henry. The author was inspired and got this idea of writing this book while attending a business meeting.  At the meeting, the Director asked the audience: "Where is the richest land in the world?" One in the audience answered: "Oil-rich Gulf states." Another replied: "Diamond mines in Africa." Then the Director said: "No, it is the Cemetery. Yes, it is the richest land in the world, because millions of people have departed, died and they carried many valuable ideas that did not come to light nor benefit others. Salty…Add Extra Curd… +++ On a Sunday afternoon a family gathered over the lunch table to have their favourite Mutton Biryani. Wife was serving both her Son and her Husband. After the food was served, the husband tasted the Biryani along with Raita and started yelling at his wife for adding extra salt in the Raita. She opened the refrigerator and added some curd to it and she served it again. One Shining Moment…

Then a moment came that changed everything for her. Rahab lived in the city wall of Jericho. She not only sold her body but provided rooms for visitors. Two of those visitors were spies that were sent by Joshua to look for any weakness in the city. Unfortunately, word got out that the spies were at her house so she hid them and told the soldiers that they had already left.  Until that moment, Rahab had nothing but a regrettable life to offer God, but in that instance, she gave God the only thing she could...her faith! Hiding the spies and betraying her city would most certainly mean instant death. Yet, she chose to believe God and act on her faith. A Little Gestures That Matter Much…

You don’t have to leap and jump over hurdles to make someone feel good. It just takes a smile or a hug or a joke or holding the door for someone or being a good listener or sharing, etc. to bring someone out of their shell. The man standing next to the vacant seat could have sat there, but instead he offered the seat to me. At the next stop, the same thing happened again. He gave his seat to another.   “If God is for us, who can be against us?” – Romans 8:31.   +++    The song "It Is Well With My Soul" was written by a successful Christian lawyer Heratio Spafford.  His only son died at age 4 in 1871. In 1872, the great Chicago fire wiped out his vast estate, which made from a successful legal career. In 1873 he sent his wife & 4 daughters over to Europe on a summer trip on the ill-fated SS Ville du Havre. (A steamship that  sank in 12 minutes with the loss of 226 lives. ) Since he had a lot of work to do, he planned to follow them later. The Ship sank and he lost his 4 daughters with his wife being the only survivor. She sent him a famous telegram which simply read,  "SAVED ALONE...." On his return home, his Law firm was burned down and the insurance company refused to pay him, saying, "It's an Act of God".
